The baroque triangle — Itinerario in auto

Four towns rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake and now a UNESCO site, all within sixty kilometres of each other. This is the drive you do by car, and it is worth a full day if you accept seeing the towns on foot instead of photographing them from the window. For anyone who has watched the series: Scicli is Vigàta, the police station is the town hall, and the house by the sea is at Punta Secca.

• Noto: corso Vittorio Emanuele and the cathedral, the most theatrical baroque of the four
• Modica: the San Giorgio cathedral at the top of the steps, and the chocolate
• Ragusa Ibla: the old town on the ridge, with the Iblei gardens
• Scicli: the Vigàta of the series, with the town hall turned into a police station

• The distances between the towns are short but the roads run through hills: Modica to Ragusa Ibla is 15 km and 20 minutes, Scicli to Ragusa Ibla 25 km and half an hour.
• The full round is about 120 km from one town to the next, and two hours of driving time: there is no point doing it without stops.
• Ragusa Ibla is seen on foot and downhill only: park at the top and walk down.
• In Modica the San Giorgio staircase is 250 steps. It is not a race.
• If you want to split it over two days: Modica and Ragusa on the first, Scicli and a beach on the second (Sampieri or Marina di Modica).
