The Iblean coast in a day — Itinerario in auto

The Ragusa coast is the other face of the Sicilian sea: no narrow coves between rocks, but long wide beaches, low seafronts and fishing villages one after another. In 2026 five towns along this stretch hold the Blue Flag — Ragusa, Scicli, Modica, Pozzallo and Ispica — and it shows. It is a long day, more than two hundred kilometres there and back: go by car, leave early and come home in the dark.

• Marina di Modica: a wide beach and wind almost always — this is where the surfers go
• Sampieri: dunes, Mediterranean scrub and the Fornace Penna on the Pisciotto headland
• Donnalucata: the seafront of the village and the fish market every morning
• Marina di Ragusa: Blue Flag since 2009, golden sand and shallow water
• Punta Secca, eight kilometres further west: the lighthouse, the tower and Montalbano's house

• It is more than two hundred kilometres there and back and about three and a half hours of actual driving: on a scooter it makes no sense, and without leaving at eight it makes none either.
• At Marina di Modica the wind is the rule, not the exception: that is why surfers and windsurfers go there. If you want flat water, stop at Sampieri or Donnalucata.
• At Sampieri the free stretch towards the Fornace Penna has no services: bars, showers and car parks are on the village side.
• Donnalucata has a large free car park a hundred metres from the beach: it is the easiest stop of the day.
• On the Marina di Ragusa seafront the parking spaces are partly free and partly paid: bring coins or the app.
• The house from the Montalbano series, at Punta Secca, is the one next to the Torre Scalambri, on the little square; the lighthouse is a hundred metres further on. They are seen from the outside.
