The Plemmirio loop — Itinerario in scooter

This is the ride we suggest to anyone who picks up a scooter in the morning and still has no idea where to go. You leave Ortigia, follow the Porto Grande and within twenty minutes you are inside the Plemmirio Marine Protected Area, established in 2005 on the Maddalena peninsula: low cliffs, small coves, water you can see from the edge of the road. Nothing demanding, no climbs: just narrow roads where you go slowly because it makes sense to.

• The Capo Murro di Porco lighthouse and the far tip of the peninsula
• Punta della Mola, low cliffs and small strips of beach
• The Sentiero della Maddalena: 10 km on foot or by bike from Punta Castelluccio to the lighthouse
• The ride back, with the view over the Porto Grande and Ortigia on the other side

• Inside the marine protected area the rules change from zone to zone: check with the Consorzio Plemmirio (0931 449310) before going into the water with mask and fins.
• The roads on the peninsula are narrow and have no verge: in summer, near the access points, you get queues and confusion. Early morning is better.
• There is almost no shade: water, a hat and sun cream even just for the ride.
• The way back into Ortigia goes through the ZTL: from 1 April 2026 it is closed Mon-Sat 11:00-15:30 and 17:00-02:00, Sundays and public holidays 10:00-02:00. Scooters included.
